ABOUT ANNE

I am a California native! In 2001 we moved to Connecticut and in 2015 we moved to Massachusetts. My work is whimsical, vibrant and happy. I am a multi-media artist using acrylic, oil, oil pastel, cold wax, collage, charcoal, pencils and mosaic. I begin a painting by mark making using charcoal, writing positive affirmations or intentions on the canvas or paper. I love texture and color and use many different mediums to achieve the look I want, glazes, papers, oil pastels and  thick paint. My tools include scrapers, dental tools, Popsicle sticks, palette knives, and plastic deli knives and forks.

I started my career twenty-five years ago working mainly with designers and their clients creating custom pieces of art including decorative furniture, beautiful floor cloths and mosaic tables. I have done set design and won 2nd place in a window design contest at the Williams-Sonoma store at Horton Plaza in San Diego, CA. My style is influenced by the artists and teachers I've studied with over the years such as Niki de Saint Phalle in 1999/2000. I worked with Niki on the Queen Califia’s Magical Circle Garden project in Escondido, CA. Niki de Saint Phalle was a French-American sculptor, painter, and filmmaker. She was one of the few women artists widely known for monumental sculpture.  My work has also been influenced by abstract artists including de Kooning, Pollack,  Chagall, Jasper Johns, Jean-Michel Basquiat and multi-media artist Raymond Saunders.

I have been published in DIY Better Homes and Gardens, San Diego Décor, San Diego Union Tribune, All About Arts TV show, Boston City Paper, INK Magazine, New London Day Newspaper and several others.

My work has been exhibited extensively in California, Boston, Connecticut and New York City.
